Vanke is a renowned Chinese property developer aimed at creating China's best co-working spaces. Our latest collaboration is its "co-creative" flagship centre in the Zhang Jiang district in Shanghai. The total project size is 4,200 SQM (45,208 SF) spanning across two floors. Primary functions of this space include co-working space, a communal events area, library and high-tech display area.
The design challenge was to create an experiential space to that its members can use, be inspired by and play in.
Our concept revolves around an interactive play on knowledge and amusement which is reflected in fun elements such as staircase seating, a vibrant library and various collective spaces etc.
The individual work settings are systematically combined with casual meeting spots and enclosed meeting areas. The space also offers a relaxed work cafe zone for ad-hoc activities and a massive communal space for events such as seminars and product launches.
ZhangJiang is well-known as the "Silicon Valley" of Shanghai, so many tech start-ups have gathered to work here. It's also of this reason that a part of the co-creative centre is reserved as a high-tech display area.
