BCG, a global consulting firm renowned for its business strategy expertise, faced a unique challenge. Despite the dynamic and ever-changing nature of their work, a culture of remote work had taken root even before the pandemic. The challenge was to turn their office into the epicentre of collaboration and creativity.

We began by stepping into the shoes of BCG employees. While the Leesman survey provided some insights, we conducted in-depth studies, including interviews, focus groups, and observation sessions, to understand the workforce's pulse. This human-centric approach became the guiding principle of our workplace strategy.

We designed BCG's new space, aptly named the 'Unoffice', to blend the appeal of the 'third space' with the convenience of the office. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee, the soft natural light, and the calming 'Athenaeum' - an inviting space to escape with a book in one of the quiet booths.

The 'Work Cafe' continues the journey, mimicking the ambience of a cosy cafe. It offers ergonomic seating for informal discussions and impromptu work sessions, supported by cutting-edge technology and ample writing surfaces. The entire space is dotted with areas that encourage spontaneous conversations and provide plentiful writing surfaces for brainstorming.

Even the work zones offer freedom of choice. Unassigned seating empowers employees to select where they work based on their unique needs throughout the day. Nature plays a significant role in inspiring creativity and reducing stress. Green pockets are thoughtfully placed throughout, creating a positive and peaceful atmosphere that fosters collaboration and innovation. The 'Arboretum,' overlooking a serene water feature, exemplifies this with its natural materials and calming ambience.

The entire space seamlessly enhances productivity, whether it's deep collaboration or focused work. The Ideation Hub provides multiple options for teams to come together and co-create. The 'Black' and 'White' rooms cater to individuals with diverse thinking preferences. 'Case rooms' offer dedicated spaces for teams to work on complex client problems, equipped for iterative work, brainstorming, and video conferencing.

The digital immersion area, situated in the client experience zone, allows BCG clients to fully experience the firm's solutions. It's a space where you become completely immersed in the display.

The partnership between BCG and Space Matrix stands as a testament to the profound impact of innovative workspace design. The 'UnOffice' not only got people back to the office by addressing critical challenges but also nurtured an environment where peak performance became the new standard. It exemplifies the transformative power of visionary workplace concepts in elevating employee productivity, nurturing creativity, and reinforcing alignment with a company's core values and purpose.

Moreover, the success of UnOffice was internationally recognized when it received the prestigious International Property Award for Best Office Interior Design in 2021-2022.

The 'UnOffice' not only got people back to the office but also nurtured an environment where peak performance became the new standard. BCG saw a 3X increase in return to office numbers at peak occupancy.
